January has been a month of receiving for our service users at the Day Centre.

LFC Foundation kindly donated a number of food and toiletry hampers which we gave to our service users in need. The boxes consisted of bread, eggs, milk, tinned food, fresh chicken breast, butter, shower gel, toothpaste and even sweet treats. Service users really benefited from these boxes and were thrilled at the generosity during such a difficult time financially.

In addition to this Expect were successful in receiving the Winter Grant Scheme from Sefton CVS. 4 service users and 3 staff from the Day Centre were approved to receive a voucher for a supporting clothing stores such as Sports Direct and Primark. The staff assisted service user’s purchase their winter items online using their vouchers. Service users were grateful to have the opportunity to be nominated and were proud wear and show off their new items. Mickey commented,

“I love my new coat, I’m warm now riding my bike to the centre in the rain”.

We have also hosted our first service user meeting of the year were service users expressed what they would like to see happening in the BRC throughout 2023. We had some great suggestions, local group outings group once the weather improves, movie club and drawing club. Service users also expressed their interest in having a small tuck shop available in the BRC so they are able to purchase drinks and snacks easily. The meeting was a success and we are now planning on putting new ideas in place.

Our Christmas day dinner went ahead with our usual layout being moved from the hall into the drop in itself due to awaiting installation of new boilers. It was a bit of a squeeze but everyone had a fantastic day and enjoyed their dinner. Michael commented “it’s the best dinner I’ve ever had ever!” Service users were given a choice of 4 different meats with all the trimmings, with soup and a roll for starters and trifle or Christmas pudding for desert.  The day was a success and it was very important that service users had the opportunity to attend, the Christmas period can sadly be quite isolating this time of year.
