Day Services Bowersdale Resource Centre

The Bowersdale Resource Centre is a Day Centre owned and run by Expect and we endeavour to work in full partnership with the local community.

The Day Centre comprises a Resource and Drop-in Centre for Sefton residents in need of complex mental health support. It also provides services for people with dual diagnoses and Out-of-Borough referrals are reviewed on an individual case by case basis.

The Day Centre is predominantly grant funded by The Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care Board (ICB) and for those service users who need mental health support the service is free. Service users who live within one of  Expect’s Supported Living or Residential Services also have the opportunity to access the service.

Weekday activities

The Centre provides friendly and respectful support to people with mental health needs and/or learning disabilities/difficulties in a non-clinical setting and offers a wide range of structured activities. Our activities are focused on enabling service users to participate in sessions that are designed to be fun, engaging and therapeutic. We focus on skill building to maximise independence and promote the social wellbeing of the individuals that we support, many of whom are at risk of social isolation. Service users attending the Day Centre are able to access all activities without costs and there is no limit to how many sessions they can attend.

Our activities run Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm, and range from learning to cook, afternoon games, arts and crafts to drama, bingo and gardening. We run weekly groups such as local outings group, strolling group and our “Let’s talk mental health” group. In addition to these we have also outsourced an holistic therapist who delivers sessions every Wednesday afternoon. These sessions cover such things as breathing exercises, gentle chair exercises, mindfulness, meditation and relaxation.

Collaborative approaches

The Day Centre has its own sensory room and laundry facilities on site. Service users can access these facilities without any limitations.

The activity programme runs on a quarterly basis and this allows us to adapt and re-shape the programme based on service user need. The people who attend the centre are at the heart of our activity programme planning, and we have regular service user meetings at which they are encouraged to share their ideas and opinions of what they would like to participate in and achieve. We are passionate about enabling people feel empowered at the Centre and strive to make it a happy and enjoyable place for all.
