February is LGBT+ History month in the UK.
At Expect we wanted to take this opportunity to discuss why LGBT+ History month is important to us.
We are continually striving to work on our commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and LGBT+ History Month provides a reminder that education is key to our success.
LGBT+ History Month is a time to reflect on the knowledge that we already have and try to dig a little deeper, learn a little more, ask difficult or challenging questions.
It is a time to remember and acknowledge those who didn’t (and still don’t) have the rights that many LGBT+ people have now, to learn how those rights were fought for and by whom.
A time to discover histories that were hidden and never taught – time for these stories to be heard.
LGBT+ History Month provides an opportunity for LGBT+ kids to see themselves reflected in history – Representation matters!
A time to look back at the past and learn – Look for the important lessons and take them forward.
This is a time to look how far society and the LGBT+ community have come, what lessons have been learned and what action still needs to be taken.
A time to learn about people who are different to ourselves and embrace the delights of diversity.
