Thanks to Karen (Ryan’s sister) for the article and Congratulations to Ryan on your amazing achievement.
In 2009, Ryan suffered a traumatic brain injury which resulted in frontal and temporal lobe damage. This has had a significant impact on every aspect of his life. Despite these challenges, Ryan continues to show determination, resilience and an incredible strength of character.
This year, for Ryan’s birthday, his family wanted to encourage him to focus on his health and wellbeing. Taking a leap of faith, they signed up together for a Deadly Dozen relay event – a tough physical challenge that would require commitment, training and perseverance. Over the past four months, Ryan has risen to that challenge. He has been attending the gym several times a week, working hard on his strength, endurance and running. His dedication and consistency have been inspiring to everyone around him.
On Saturday 13th June 2026, Ryan took part in the event alongside his sister, her husband Leon, and his support worker John. With encouragement and teamwork, Ryan successfully completed the relay in front of hundreds of spectators.
Not only did Ryan complete the event, but the team also achieved an outstanding third place in the mixed relay category. In recognition of his determination and spirit, Ryan was also awarded the “Hercules Patch”, chosen as one of the organisers’ favourite athletes of the day.
Ryan’s achievements do not stop there. He has now been invited to:
Ryan’s journey is a powerful reminder that, with support, encouragement and determination, incredible things are possible. His story is already inspiring others and helping to change perceptions around life after brain injury.
We are all extremely proud of Ryan and everything he has achieved.
Well done, Ryan — your strength and perseverance are truly inspiring!
