Service users at the BRC have been working on creating their own poems to express themselves creatively, as well as having the chance to win the BRC Poetry competition which will be held on Friday the 14th March.
Below are a few examples of the sorts of poetry that have been created. Please give them a read and take time to appreciate the work and creative passion behind them.
Little Miss Independence
2024 I began my Journey to becoming Independent!
I started doing my own Cleaning, hoovering and food shopping in Asda and other places.
Wayne would help me but I was okay because I had started to learn to read in the Centre and that made my confidence better.
I have also learnt how to cook in my new air fryer,
Making roast chicken on a Sunday without setting the place on fire
Now in 2025 I can use the washing machine and the tumble dryer
So I can do my washing all by myself.
Making me feel much better and making my mood higher
Even though I am 58 I know it’s never too late and my life is going to be great.

Wrestling Poem
To understand my love for The Undertaker
You will have to watch it for yourself
Then you will see
There’s more than just me who loves Mr Undertaker.
Elizabeth Wilberforce
Untitled Poem
Today I feel happy
Rather than being snappy
One day I would like to meet chappie
When at home I feel cosy
Every day my life is rosy
Some days I can be dozy
When at the shops I like to have a nosy.

My Mum
My Mum I lost 3 years ago
It seems just like yesterday
Always there for everyone with a loving smile
we always done things together and laughed a lot
as well, we watched the soaps together and put the world to rights
I think about you every day. You’re always in my heart.

Untitled Poem
Hello Dad I Love You
No one realises what you do
You mean so much
You really take care of us
Mum and Dad I couldn’t ask for more
We really think that as a family you are the flashing core
Always take care of your own
No-one realises the back bone
Life is too short
You know you can’t be bought
My Family is a one off
We really are so close
So let’s raise your glass, celebrate and have a toast
Michelle Walker
Untitled Poem
My name is Joanne live by a simple plan
I’m happy without a man
Each day I have a nice scran
When I come to the BRC
I always leave feeling happy
Once a week I do my washing and drying
Now I feel I can do this on my own I’m flying
I do other activities too
Which help me when I’m feeling blue
I’m always happy and have a positive view
You can always count on me when in BRC.
